Diamond Brilliance Without Destruction
Why choose lab-grown diamonds over mined?
A diamond has always been a symbol of strength, connection and timeless style. Traditionally formed deep within the Earth over millions of years, diamonds are born when carbon is exposed to extraordinary heat and pressure, eventually crystallising into something rare and brilliant. At Skydiamond, we’ve reimagined that process, harnessing the same elements to grow our diamonds above ground in just a matter of weeks. The result is a sustainable diamond identical in quality and purity to one born below the surface, but with a radically lighter footprint. It's nature redefined, with nothing to hide and everything to admire.
Are lab-grown diamonds more ethical than mined?
Because forever should begin with a purpose. There is nothing romantic about the destruction left behind by traditional diamond mining – its environmental impact is vast, and its supply chainoften murky and untraceable. A single mined diamond typically passes through more than 15 pairs of hands before reaching its final owner. In contrast, every Skydiamond is grown in a fully traceable, transparent process that is independently certified carbon negative by Imperial College London. This is a new kind of luxury: one that reflects not only personal style but personal values.
What makes a Skydiamond Carbon-Negative?
Skydiamond’s man-made diamonds stand apart because, unlike mined diamonds, they actively remove more CO₂ from the atmosphere than they emit. An Imperial College London‑verified life‑cycle analysis shows Skydiamond stones reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 99.79% compared to mined diamonds, while avoiding all the sulphur oxide, and more than half the nitrous oxide emissions associated with mined diamonds.
Lab-grown diamonds produced via conventional methods can also generate a significant amount of CO₂ – especially if energy is sourced from fossil fuels. Thanks to 100% renewable electricity, direct air capture for CO2 and hydrogen production from the electrolysis of rainwater, our UK lab grown diamond process is the only one with negative emissions.
The differences extend beyond carbon: mined diamonds consume 4,383 times more waste, use 2.14 times the energy and 6.8 times as much water, whereas Skydiamond causes minimal pollution and uses closed-loop water systems. That’s how we genuinely achieve carbon negativity, not by offsetting but by design.
"The most powerful statement a diamond can make today is how it was made. In an age where transparency matters more than tradition, a diamond’s origin tells a story far more meaningful than its cut or clarity. At Skydiamond, we believe the future of jewellery lies not in mining the Earth, but in finding a solution to one of the biggest problems of our time.”
