How to Find Out Ring Size

An investment piece like your engagement ring is sought after to be worn daily. Always looking for quality craftsmanship and longevity in the diamond and its cut, are key to making sure it sits at the perfect size, this can be down to the last mm. How it fits will showcase more sparkle, elegance and beauty, whilst feeling comfortable all day.

Using a ring sizer

Whether you’re sizing your index finger for an impending proposal, or simply looking to add to your Skydiamond collection, you’re sure to get an accurate size from a ring sizer.

Using a ring sizer is super easy, choose the finger you’ll be wearing the ring on and slide the ring sizer on. It should feel comfortable when slipping the sizer on and off.

Remember when using a ring sizer you should always:

  • Measure multiple times throughout the day to ensure accuracy.
  • Consider the ring width! Wider rings can often feel slightly tighter.

Find your ring size using a ring you already have

Alternatively, if you don’t have a ring sizer to hand, just open up your jewellery box and find a ring you love, and we can use that to measure!

Firstly, you want to find a ring that fits well on your intended finger, but is also similar in width to the one you wish to purchase. Use a ruler to measure the inside diameter of the ring, from one end to the other. Once you have the diameter in millimetres, you will want to cross-reference this to a ring size conversion chart.

It’s important to remember that using a ring you already own, although convenient, might not be the most accurate way to measure. If you are planning to propose, don’t forget we offer complimentary re-sizing on any engagement ring!

Find your ring size with the string method

Arguably, it is the most DIY approach to ring sizing. It’s super convenient, but we would only recommend it if you are cross-checking your result with another method.

You will need some non-stretchy string, a pen and a ruler. Wrap the string gently around the base of your desired finger, keeping it snug, but not too tight. Use a pen to measure the point the string intersects with itself, lay it flat and measure the length to find the circumference of your finger. Convert the circumference to diameter in mm, and use a ring conversion chart to see your size.

Remember that the accuracy of this method depends on maintaining consistent tension with the string around your finger. If the ring is not perfectly round or is twisted during measurement, again it will lead to an inaccurate measurement.

When is it best to measure your ring size?

Here are our general guidelines for the timing when measuring your ring size:

1) Measure in the evening

This will mean your fingers are likely to be their largest due to daily activities and fluid retention. Meaning, the size you measure will be the most comfortable for all day long.

2) Avoid exercise right before

Wait at least 30 minutes to an hour before measuring ring size after exercise. This will allow any exercise-induced swelling to subside.

3) Consider normal day-to-day activities

For the most accurate measurement, try and measure at different points of your typical day-to-day activities to ensure your new ring will remain comfortable all day long.

How should your engagement ring fit?

There are several things that you need to consider to enable you to get your perfect size. For example, the width of the band, the size of the stone, the time of the day and even the weather.

Your ring should fit your finger comfortably; snug enough so that it will not fall off, even if your hands are cold & wet, but loose enough to slide over your knuckle, even when your warm. Also, remember if you will be wearing a wedding band next to the ring - that will make the ring feel tighter when you wear the two together.

I know my ring size, what's next?

Once you know your ring size, the next step is to find your dream ring, born from the stars. Remember, we offer complimentary re-sizing for all engagement rings.
