What is diamond shape?

Diamond shape is the silhouette of your stone. This concept is often referred to as the cut, however, the cut actually refers to the proportions and symmetry of how the stone is cut.

Diamonds can come in all types of shapes. Round is the most common and ‘fancy shaped’ diamonds refer to every other traditional diamond cut.

Skydiamonds are available in both round brilliant and fancy cut styles.

Round Brilliant
Round Brilliant is the most common, and popular, cut. It’s a timeless and simple classic that is very versatile in style. It goes with every type of jewellery. A round diamond typically has around 58 facets which can reflect light, making it exceptionally bright.

Princess
A princess cut is either square or rectangular in shape. This is the most popular fancy cut, a contemporary look with four pointed corners. Princess cuts typically have 50-58 facets and a unique chevron pattern that really catches the light.

Emerald
Emerald shapes give off a more art deco aesthetic. It has rectangular facets which give it a rather glamourous look. Rather than reflecting light outwards like a round cut, it creates a hall of mirrors effect which is very dramatic to behold.

Pear
Pear or teardrop shapes are a standout centrepiece. These stones can look larger than they really are due to their clever way of reflecting light. Plus, the pear shape makes your finger look flatteringly longer and elegant.

Cushion
Cushion is so named because it resembles a pillow. It takes the shape of a princess and rounds the corners to create a soft, plump look. The 58-faceted stone accentuates its vintage style brilliance – perfect for the retro diamond lover.

Oval
An oval shape resembles an elongated round. Like the pear, the oval shape brings an elegance to your finger while the cut accentuates the brilliance and fire in the stone. This is a popular choice for halo effects, bringing some extra dazzle to your jewellery.

Marquise
Also known as a Navette shape, the marquise looks much like an eye. It is long, narrow and has pointed ends which help to maximise the size and your finger’s elegance. This regal 18th century shape has an undeniable and distinctive beauty.

Heart
Heart shaped diamonds are not a very common shape. These stones have a very precise length to width ratio which make their curves completely symmetrical. These are often nicely paired with a halo in various jewellery pieces.

Asscher
Similar to the emerald, an Asscher shape showcases depth of light. These square shapes hold between 50-58 facets and appear intriguingly shiny rather than sparkly. These are a very art deco shape with a clear style.

Radiant
A radiant stone is a balance between the elegance of an emerald and the classic brilliance of a round. The trimmed edges help to give the diamond shape a unique and modern look.
